SIHH 2002 Report
The must-have trinket of the year
The Panerai booth had several examples of these new desk clocks and wall clocks. It seems that they are intended for the showrooms of Panerai retailers, although I think the retailers will have to watch them very carefully to avoid them "disappearing" into the pockets of enthusiasts! I may have mistunderstood, but I think the dials, which are exact reproductions of the Luminor Base, really have super-luminova numerals.

Freebies
The SIHH is awash with freebies and promotional items. It was not uncommon to see people staggering past under the weight of five or six bags full of catalogues, T-shirts etc. Panerai were no exception, although the giftware did seem to be a little more restrained than that from other manufacturers. I managed to score an item of branded clothing (I don't know what it is, I haven't opened the cellophane!) that I will give away in a future competition, and a very handsome laptop case with "Officine Panerai" and the maiale embroidered on the outside, and a signed metal plate inside. This seemed to be the top gift; the salesman from my local authorised dealer was also given one. Since I've already used the case to carry things back from the show, I think I will be keeping it. That's my excuse anyway :-)

New Catalogue
There
is new 2002 catalogue available, although it did not have a millesimation, and
several of the new models (notably the Luminor Marina Gold and Radiomir 42mm
steel) are not mentioned in it. I guess the logistics of what will be ready
for the show and what will not are very difficult to balance up. The catalogue
is the same size as in previous years, but a dark blue colour.
